"The book gives one the feeling that they are sitting at the kitchen table listening to Susan personally tell stories of the past - both her own, and those of her ancestors."
~ Leland Meitzler [The Genealogy Blog]

There are few places in England which kept their rural charm and simplicity into the 20th century as well as the Isle of Axholme.  An area of marshy land, drained substantially by Dutch settlers in the 17th century, made a childhood haven for Susan Crow (née Temperton) when she was growing up in the 1950s and 60s.

Follow Susan's story through her memories of rural and village life in the post-war era when two ways of life, the Past and the Future, were colliding and when the Isle of Axholme was still resisting the 20th century call towards urbanisation.

The Child of the Isle offers a heartwarming and nostalgic memory of life in rural England.
